Honestly, the first time I saw a Yiga Clan member in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, I just wanted to whack them with a fused boulder and move on. They’re annoying. They pop up at the worst times. But then you realize that the Yiga clan outfit totk isn't just a gimmick or a funny costume. It’s a literal backstage pass to some of the coolest, most secretive content in the game.
You can't just buy this at a shop in Hateno (well, not at first). You have to earn it by raiding three separate branches across Hyrule.
It's a process.
Tracking Down the Pieces
You basically have to become a debt collector for kidnapped tailors. The Yiga have taken over three specific spots, and at each one, they've got a poor stylist locked up making their uniforms. You show up, kick some red-clothed butt, and the tailor gives you a piece of the gear as a "please don't let them kidnap me again" gift.
The Yiga Mask (The Great Plateau)
Remember the Old Man’s cabin from Breath of the Wild? It’s not so cozy anymore.
Head to the Great Plateau. The cabin is surrounded by a spiked wooden fence now. You can’t just walk in, so you’ve got to get creative—either glide in from a nearby hill or chop down a tree to make a bridge. Once you knock on the door, two Yiga members will jump you.
Beat them, go inside, and talk to Pitar. He’ll give you the Yiga Mask. One down.
The Yiga Armor (Akkala Ancient Tech Lab)
This one is way up in the northeast corner of the map. If you’ve been following Robbie’s quests for the Purah Pad, you’ll end up here anyway. The lab has been completely taken over.
When you approach the door, the Yiga will ambush you again. It’s usually a Footsoldier and a Blademaster combo. Pro tip: use a Puffshroom. It confuses them and makes the fight a joke. After the fight, head inside to find Konba. He’ll hand over the Yiga Armor (the chest piece).
Note: Don't forget to grab the Travel Medallion prototype from the chest in the back of the lab while you're there. It saves you a return trip.
The Yiga Tights (Aldor Foothills)
The last piece is tucked away in a cave called the Yiga Clan Maritta Branch. It’s west of the Great Hyrule Forest. Look for a cave entrance decorated with those weird stone frog statues.
Once you clear out the guards inside, look at the ceiling. There’s a hole. Use Ascend to pop up into a hidden room. That’s where Aliza is waiting with the Yiga Tights.
Is the Stealth Actually Worth It?
People always ask if this is just a reskinned Stealth Set. Kinda, but not really.
Base defense is low. Like, "one hit from a Silver Lynel and you're a ghost" low. Each piece starts at 1 defense. Even fully upgraded, it caps out at 12 per piece (36 total), which is lower than the Sheikah set.
But you aren't wearing this for the protection. You're wearing it for the Stealth Up bonus and the specific interactions. When you have the full set on:
- Most Yiga members in the world won't attack you.
- You can walk right into the Yiga Clan Hideout in the Gerudo Highlands.
- You get a Night Speed Up bonus if you upgrade the whole set to level two.
The Materials Grind: Bring Many Lizalfos
Upgrading this set is a bit of a nightmare if you hate hunting Lizalfos. To get that sweet speed bonus, you'll need to visit a Great Fairy.
For the first level, it's just Octorok Eyeballs. Easy.
But then it gets real. You’ll need:
- Fire-Breath Lizalfos Tails (Level 2)
- Ice-Breath Lizalfos Tails (Level 3)
- Electric Lizalfos Tails (Level 4)
- Black Hinox Horns
- Mighty Bananas (Obviously)
The drop rate on those tails is notoriously stingy. You’ll be spending a lot of time in the Hebra Mountains and the Gerudo Desert.
What Happens Inside the Hideout?
This is why you actually went through all that trouble. Once you have the Yiga clan outfit totk equipped, the guards at the main hideout (the big one in the canyon north of Gerudo Town) will let you in.
Inside, you can participate in combat trials.
- The first trial gives you the Yiga Fabric for your paraglider.
- The second trial teaches you the Earthwake Technique. This lets you attack from the ground without a weapon. It’s cool, even if it’s not the most powerful move in your arsenal.
- The third trial grants you the Lightning Helm. This is a game-changer. It makes you completely immune to lightning, just like the Thunder Helm from the first game.
Fun Interactions
The developers put some funny details in here. If you talk to Purah or Paya while wearing the full suit, they get... concerned. Paya basically refuses to talk to you because you're dressed like the enemy.
Also, if you try to steal the "trap bananas" scattered around Hyrule while wearing the suit, the Yiga will yell at you for stealing "allied" supplies. It’s a nice touch that makes the world feel alive.
Actionable Next Steps
If you’re ready to stop being harassed by random assassins, here is exactly what you should do right now:
- Teleport to the Great Plateau and hit the cabin first. It’s the easiest piece to grab.
- Save your Lizalfos tails. Do not sell them for rupees or use them in random elixirs. You will regret it when you're 5 tails short of an upgrade.
- Go to the Akkala Lab next. You need that Travel Medallion anyway, so you might as well kill two birds with one stone.
- Head to the Gerudo Hideout immediately after getting all three pieces. The Lightning Helm you get there makes exploring stormy areas like Thundra Plateau or the Faron region infinitely less annoying.
The Yiga set isn't about being the strongest warrior in Hyrule; it's about being the smartest. Plus, let's be honest, the red aesthetic looks pretty slick when you're paragliding over the Depths.
